Rough-in: 2-way or 3-way?
Count the water outlets. Rain shower head + handheld + tub faucet = 3-way. If one of the three is missing (for example shower head + handheld only) it is a 2-way installation.
This model: 2-way (rain shower head + handheld).
It is a concealed system: the brass rough-in valve is installed inside the wall before tiling; the trim and handles fit afterwards.

Installation (US plumbing)
- Place the valve. Mount the rough-in valve on solid blocking – ≈ 48" from the floor.
- Connect the supplies. ½" hot to HOT (left), cold to COLD (right), using NPT, sweat or PEX adapters.
- Run the outlets. Outlet 1 up to the shower-arm elbow (≈ 80"); Outlet 2 to the handheld wall elbow.
- Set the depth so the plaster guard matches the finished wall (tile + backer board).
- Pressure-test every joint before closing the wall, then tile.
- Fit the trim, handles, shower arm and head, handheld with PTFE tape.
- Test temperature, flow and all joints for leaks.
Most US jurisdictions require an anti-scald (pressure-balance or thermostatic, ASSE 1016) shower valve – a licensed plumber can confirm local code. Installation instructions are sent with every order.

FAQ
What is the difference between a 2-way and a 3-way shower diverter valve?
A 3-way valve feeds three outlets – rain shower head, handheld shower and tub spout. A 2-way valve feeds two, for example rain head + handheld. If one of the three is missing, it is a 2-way installation.
Which rough-in valve does this unlacquered brass shower set use?
It uses a concealed 2-way (rain head + handheld) rough-in valve. All connections are standard ½" NPT.
What does the thermostatic valve do in this brass shower system?
A thermostatic valve holds the water temperature steady even when someone uses water elsewhere in the house – safer and more comfortable for everyday showers.
At what height should a concealed shower rough-in valve be installed?
About 48" from the finished floor for a walk-in shower, with the shower arm outlet at about 80".
Is the brass rough-in valve installed before or after tiling the shower wall?
Before. The valve body is plumbed, set to the finished wall depth and pressure-tested before tiling; the trim plate and handles go on afterwards.
Is this unlacquered brass shower compatible with standard US plumbing?
Yes. All water connections are standard ½" NPT (IPS), so any licensed US plumber can install it with ordinary fittings.
Will an unlacquered brass shower fixture tarnish or develop a patina?
Yes – it is a living finish that slowly darkens to a warm antique patina. That is natural, not a defect; a brass polish restores the original shine whenever you like.
How do I clean an unlacquered brass shower without damaging the finish?
Rinse, wash with mild soap and a soft cloth, then dry. Avoid bleach, acids and abrasive pads.
Do you offer trade pricing on brass shower systems for designers and contractors?
Yes – interior designers, contractors and hotels can email contact@zayian.com for trade and bulk pricing.
